My Story
Alec Stevens is a pre-medical student pursuing dual degrees in Honors Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Bachelor of Music at the University of Utah. My academic career is defined by a rigorous commitment to excellence, both in scientific research and the performing arts.

At StevensED, I offer focused instruction in piano, biology, and math. In mathematics, I bring years of teaching experience across a range of age groups. I have developed lessons that adhere to the Common Core curriculum while also instituting supplementary instruction that goes beyond standard expectations, fostering both foundational and advanced problem-solving skills in my students. Extending beyond such levels, I have taught Calculus, Statistics, and Linear Algebra.

In the field of biology, I offer specialized expertise in the AP Biology and IB Biology SL/HL programs. My academic achievements include a high score on the AP Biology Exam, which earned me recognition as an AP Scholar, as well as a perfect score on the IB Biology HL exam. This background has enabled me to provide targeted guidance in exam preparation, curriculum comprehension, and advanced biological concepts, supporting students in excelling within these rigorous programs.

As a piano instructor, I blend technical proficiency with musicality, encouraging students to develop both skill and artistic expression. My teaching philosophy centers on cultivating a supportive, structured environment where students can achieve their full potential. Through my diverse qualifications and commitment to excellence, I strive to make a lasting impact on the academic and personal growth of each student I teach.
Music: Artist Statement
As a musician, my work is driven by a deep commitment to using music as a means of remediating and therapeutic effect. My personal journey has been shaped by a blend of experiences in both music and science, rooted in a family tradition that spans generations. Raised in an environment where the practice of medicine and the pursuit of music were intertwined, I developed an appreciation for the powerful impact that music can have on mental health and well-being.
From an early age, the piano became more than just an instrument to me; it was a source of solace during trying times. The challenges I faced, including shifting family dynamics and personal loss, led me to turn to music to gain relief. Through playing the piano, I found a sense of control and peace, which inspired me to explore the broader possibilities of music as a tool for remedial treatment.
My academic pursuits in both Biology and Music at the University of Utah have further deepened my understanding of the intersection between these disciplines. I am passionate about the ongoing research in music therapy, particularly its potential to alleviate anxiety and other conditions. My goal is to contribute to this field by combining my musical training with my knowledge of health sciences, ultimately creating a platform where music serves not just as a form of entertainment but as a means of improving lives.
While I am dedicated to achieving excellence in performance, my concern lies in developing implements to help others. By integrating my personal experiences and academic knowledge, I strive to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those struggling, using music to facilitate well-being.
